Psychodynamic Counselling
It can be confusing working out what kind of counselling will best suit you. The different types of therapy on offer can make deciding who to go to somewhat of a challenge. Psychodynamic counselling pays attention to the unconscious and how it influences our lives, the decisions we make and the patterns which we repeat, even when they are harmful to us. It also looks for the roots of the difficulties we face in the here and now and hence takes attention to your personal history.

About me and my practice
I have 25 years experience as a counsellor and I continue to enjoy this work. I believe it is a privilege to work alongside people who are at a point of change, discomfort or distress. I am a good listener, I'm patient and I don't judge. Life is hard for each of us at some points in our lives and I trust that my humanity is of use to my clients. I don't specialise in any one area but have a lot of experience in working with people who are struggling with relationship issues, bereavement, work struggles and issues rooted in childhood. Such difficulties may present as anxiety, depression or anger. Together we will explore what is useful for you and as such, our therapeutic relationship is an important foundation to such work.
I take my ongoing training most seriously and engage in regular CPD (Continuous Professional Development). I really enjoy developing my knowledge and skills and believe that this benefits my clients and myself.
Experience
Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked as a social worker. I worked in child protection, fostering and adoption and adult psychiatry.
Alongside my counselling career, I worked in social work education from which I am now retired.
I counsel on a part-time at present, both face to face and online.

Initial Consultation
The first session is an exploratory session where we introduce ourselves and explore why you are looking for counselling at this present time. I would outline some of the practicalities involved in working together: fees, timescales, breaks etc and answer any questions you may have about undertaking psychodynamic counselling. By the end of the first session, we should be able to confirm whether or not this feels like the best form of counselling for you, that I am someone you feel you will be able to trust and open up to and also that our practical arrangements suit us both.
Fees
£50 per session
When I Work
